Missouri wine trails

The Augusta area in Missouri became the first American Viticultural Area (AVA) in the US.
Missouri's state tourism office counts more than 125 wineries; about 40 of them belong to wine trails.
Missouri vineyards cover about 1,700 acres and the state makes about 1 million gallons of wine a year.
Wineries in and around Hermann, settled by Germans in 1837, make about a third of the state's wine; the Ozark Highlands AVA covers 1,280,000 acres in south-central Missouri.
